| HISTORY : | Edward Davies was a farmer, merchant and politician from Churchtown in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He was born in Churchtown in November of 1779 and attended rural schools in Caernarvon Township until adulthood. In the early 1800's, Davies engaged in farming and later opened a general store. He was elected to the Pennsylvania State house of representatives in 1834 and again in 1835. In 1837, he was elected to the United States Congress as an Anti-Masonic candidate. He was re-elected for a second term and remained in office until 1841. Davies retired from public office the same year and returned to Churchville to resume managing his farm and business. Edward Davies died in Churchtown on May 18, 1853 and is interred in the Pottstown Cemetery in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. |
