| HISTORY : | "The Art Class" of Lancaster, Pennsylvania was founded by Ruth Frantz in 1910 to study the history of painting for one year. Membership was limited to twenty-four women from the Lancaster area and was based upon interest and willingness to participate. The programs consisted of papers read before the membership and a concluded with a summary given by the President of the organization. The first year was such a success that a second series of programs was scheduled for the following year and has continued to this day. Since the initial year, "The Art Class" has expanded its program topics to non-art subjects including museum trips, exhibitions, musical concerts and variety of other events. At present there are twenty-six members that gather twice a month to read essays and listen to special talks. |
