| HISTORY : | The Berlin & Hanover Turnpike Company was incorporated in 1810 to launch a road construction project that would connect Berlin (presently East Berlin) and Hanover, Pennsylvania. The first contract to build the road was issued on October 10, 1812. Financial and construction problems plagued the company from 1813 to 1816. New contractors were hired in late 1816 to complete the road which was finally finished two years later. |
