| HISTORY : | Henry W. Cameron was a soldier in Company C of the 173rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment from the fall of 1862 to the summer 1863. Prior to the American Civil War, Cameron was a farmer from East Hanover Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He was drafted in the 173rd Pennsylvania as a private on October 29, 1862, was promoted to sergeant on May 3, 1863 and was mustered out of service on August 17, 1863. His regiment was stationed near Norfolk, Virginia performing post duty for a majority of its existence but did assist in the pursuit of the Confederate Army as it retreated from Gettysburg. The regiment's final month was spent guarding the Orange and Alexandria Railroad in Virginia. Following the war, Cameron returned to East Hanover where he continued to farm and raise cattle. |
