HISTORY : Henry G. Long was born in the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania on August 23, 1804. He attended local schools and received his legal training from G. B. Porter. In 1827 he was admitted as a member of the Lancaster bar and shortly afterwards was appointed as assistant prothonotary of the district. He was elected solicitor for the commission of the county sometime in the 1830's and held that position for twenty consecutive years. In 1836 he was elected a member of the convention to amend the Constitution of the State. Long was elected to the state legislature in 1838 remaining in office until he was elected President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County in 1851. He held that position until he retired in 1871.
