Code of Conduct

for

Ganser Library, Millersville University


Purpose

Purpose: To ensure that the users of the library enjoy a pleasant, productive, and safe environment. Expectations of all library users are outlined below. These guidelines will help ensure a space welcome to all that is free from disruptive behavior, harassment of any kind, and other unnecessary distractions.


The goal of the library is provide a place where users can expect:

Use of the library facilities and materials are subject to applicable federal and state laws, as well as the Millersville Code of Conduct and Policy of Responsible Use for information technology.

Behavorial Guidelines

In an effort to meet the above goals, you are requested to observe the following guidelines:

  1. Disruptive behavior. Patrons are expected to be courteous and respectful to others. Disruptive behavior, including but not limited to, rowdiness, abusive or threatening language, and other activities that interfere with normal use of the library are not permitted.
  2. Harassment. Harassment of any persons will not be tolerated.
  3. Damaging library materials. Patrons are prohibited from damaging library property. Examples include marking, underlining, or removing pages from books, tampering with electronic anti-theft devices, or defacing materials, computers, or furniture.
  4. Removing library materials from the building without authorization. Materials should be checked out prior to leaving the building. Unauthorized removal of library materials constitutes theft.
  5. Mobile phones. Phone conversations should kept as quiet and brief as possible. Phones should be silenced while on quiet floors in the building.
  6. Emergencies. Patrons must follow instructions from authorized personnel during emergency situations or drills, including vacating the building when instructed. Opening emergency exits in a non-emergency situation is prohibited.
  7. Copyright. Use of library materials and equipment is subject to copyright laws and restrictions. This includes music, video, and electronic resources.
  8. Fines and fees. Patrons are expected to return items on time and pay applicable fines and/or fees for late or lost materials.
  9. Concealing library materials. Moving or concealing library materials for the exclusive use of a group or individual is not allowed.
  10. Minors. Community patrons under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
  11. Food and drinks. Food should be consumed in the Ganser Grind café area. Drinks may be brought into the library in covered containers.
  12. Tobacco. Use of all tobacco is prohibited within the building.
  13. Personal items. Storing personal items or leaving belongings unattended is not allowed.
  14. Animals. No animals are permitted in the building except service animals.
  15. Skates. Use of skates, skateboards, in-line skates, etc., are not permitted in the building.

Violations

Violations of the Millersville Code of Conduct, Policy of Responsible Use, or the Ganser Library Code of Conduct may result in one or more (but not necessarily all) of the following:
